AION 2 Genus Insight: understand the five pet boards
AION 2 Genus Insight is the progression board for a pet family. It is separate from the Insight level of one pet: a pet uses its own souls, while a genus board uses experience and analysis. Start by identifying which screen you are on before spending either resource.
Three kinds of pet progress
| Progress | What you are trying to change | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Collection | The number of different pets owned | Unowned pets and claimable collection rewards |
| Pet Insight | One pet's level and listed owned effects | That pet's soul item and next upgrade requirement |
| Genus Insight | A family's analysis board | The selected genus, EXP, crystals and unlocked lines |
The current English community references distinguish five genera: Cogni, Fera, Natura, Varian and Special. Their nine-line analysis boards are a different interface from the pet's level display. Corpus's Global pet guide documents that distinction. Owning a pet and equipping it for travel are also different actions; do not infer that selecting a mount moves EXP to a different board.
Check your region before using upgrade numbers
This site follows English Global community data checked on October 14, 2026. Those references show three Pet Insight levels. The Taiwan official pet guide, updated August 13, 2026, describes pet progression up to level 5. That is regional documentation, not evidence that a Global pet should be raised to level 5.
Wikily's current Genus Insight page lists 500 genus EXP on obtaining a pet, then 250 at each of the next two pet levels. Treat these as community-listed Global reference values. The game's current pet panel takes precedence if your numbers differ. A website review date does not establish the date on which the underlying game data was extracted.
The Pet Soul Planner calculates the soul gap for one pet using costs you enter. It does not calculate board EXP, analysis odds or the number of rolls needed for a stat.
Choose a board and protect your budget
- Choose one goal. Write down whether you are collecting a family, improving a stat board or preparing a particular pet form. A mount appearance is not a reason to spend on an unrelated board.
- Select the genus. Read its name at the top of the board before analysis. Compare it with the genus on the pet you intend to collect.
- Read the material names. Pet souls are not Soul Crystals. Check whether the current operation consumes family crystals or a universal crystal, and note the Kina cost shown.
- Decide a stopping budget. Reserve resources needed for other progression. Count the analysis attempts your remaining crystals and Kina can both support.
- Check locks before every session. A preserved line can make the next analysis more expensive. Recalculate the budget after changing a lock.
- Review after a level change. A higher board level may change the available lines or grades. Read the new panel before carrying on automatically.
The Taiwan official guide confirms the general relationship between analysis, genus EXP, higher grades and more expensive locks for that region. English Global community references describe the same broad pattern. We have not verified a universal best stat order for every class and patch.
A budget example you can repeat
Use the price currently displayed in your client, not an old screenshot. Suppose, as a hypothetical example, your unlocked analysis costs 4 crystals and 1,000 Kina. With 120 eligible crystals and 20,000 spare Kina, the resource limits are 120 ÷ 4 = 30 attempts and 20,000 ÷ 1,000 = 20 attempts. Your budget is the smaller number: 20 attempts.
If a lock changes that displayed price to 8 crystals and 2,000 Kina, the same stock supports only 10 attempts. This arithmetic says how many purchases your budget covers. It does not predict a desirable roll, a guaranteed grade or a successful build. Stop when either budget is exhausted; do not treat a poor previous result as a reason to exceed the limit.
Community guides differ on when to begin locking valuable lines and on which offensive line to chase first. A conservative approach is to avoid expensive early locks while still developing the board, then compare the current stat pool with your actual PvE or PvP goal. This is a budget recommendation, not a claim that we measured your class's damage.
Common mistakes and the next action
- Farming a pet from the wrong genus: inspect the pet's classification, then filter the pet database to the family you mean to advance.
- Expecting a Soul Crystal to level one pet: inspect the specific pet soul item and its Insight progress. The two resources have different jobs.
- Copying a regional slot number: compare the stat name and full effect with your Global interface. A matching number alone is insufficient.
- Ignoring a locked line's cost: read the new price and recompute the attempt budget before enabling repeated analysis.
- Counting both the old and new pet-level effects: compare the effects currently shown for that level; a level table is not automatically a list of additive rewards.
For a concrete collection target, open the pet selection guide. For an acquisition session, use the farming workflow and verify the chosen pet's source in the game.
